Marielle Plaisir is a multi-disciplinary artist of French-Caribbean descent who currently resides in the United States. She tackles the theme of social domination in her work and delves into issues surrounding colonialism, race, and class, recontextualizing harmful histories while offering hope for a better future.

Through her artistic translations, Plaisir questions power structures on a global scale. Her art takes many forms, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, film, and performance, which combine to create powerful visual experiences. She particularly focuses on exploring the construction of collective and individual identity as well as how people who were born into struggle and inequity reclaim their power.

Plaisir underscores intersections between US Black and Caribbean history, such as labor movements and the fight for equality through literature, philosophy, and history. She conducts extensive historical research, often mining literary and musical sources which she integrates into her productions. Her pieces combine diverse media to spark imagination and evoke emotions.

She has had successful solo exhibitions at the Coral Gables Museum and the MoCA Museum Miami, and her work is held in both public and private collections such as the MoCA Museum Miami, the Gregg Museum of Art & Design, and the Mint Museum. She also has an extensive history exhibiting at art fairs and biennials around the world, such as the Biennials of Florence, Dublin, and Sao Paulo, as well as TEFAF, Untitled Miami, and the Armory Show NYC.

In 2022, Plaisir was awarded the prestigious Knight New Work Award from the Knight Foundation. These funds will support her innovative explorations into virtual reality.
