Mario Zoots | Fragments

K Contemporary’s Project Space features “Fragments,” a collection of collages by Denver-based artist, Mario Zoots. The expressive power of images lies at the heart of Zoot’s practice. Using classic film stills, magazine fragments, vintage postcards, and found family photographs with a mix of his own photography, Zoots makes collages that are nostalgic but also uncanny and absurd. These collage-based works engage with themes of psychological archetypes, desire, voyeurism, elusiveness, and most significantly perhaps, appropriation and fragmentation. By adjusting, inverting, and slicing separate pictures together to create new works of art, Zoots taps the unconscious by exploring the subversive force of found images.
