Viktor Frešo | Family Refresh

Conceptual artist Viktor Frešo returns to the theme of memory, family, and identity in Family Refresh. Curated by Dr. Katarína Bajcurován, this exhibition is on view at the Ján Koniark Gallery in Trnava, Slovak Republic from March 16, 2023 through May 7, 2023. 

Material heritage is a theme Viktor has previously explored in his practice, most notably in Family Vintage  at the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Bratislava in 2021 and in Post Vintage at K Contemporary in Denver, 2022. Family Refresh sees Viktor reviving old memories and reframing intergenerational family ties.  Specifically highlighted in this exhibition are Viktor's illustrious grandparents who were celebrities in their own right -- well-known figures in both popular and Slovak high culture: the legendary actor and director Paľo Bielik from Jánošík; actress Anna Marcineková; music composer Tibor Frešo; and singer, Judita Frešová. Viktor's father also features prominently in the exhibition, well-known musician, producer, and composer Fedor Frešo. 

Through preserved film, photographs, various memorabilia, and found objects Viktor weaves an atemporal narrative. The result is a new and multifarious installation that empathetically conveys the artist's roots.
